Our Classes

Class Organisation

We have 3 Classes, named after trees which can be found in our school grounds. The classes have mixed ages:

Willow:  Years R , 1 and 2       This consists of children in the Early Years and Key Stage 1

Beech:   Years 3 and 4             This consists of children in Lower Key Stage 2

Oak:      Years 5 and 6              This consists of children in Upper Key Stage 2

Year 2 children are taught separately during the morning for their  Math lesson.

Benefits of Mixed-age Classes

In our mixed-age classes, pupils stay with the same teacher for 2-3 years. This allows the teacher to develop a deeper understanding of a pupil’s strengths and needs, and puts them in a better position to support their learning. Older children have the opportunity to serve as mentors and to take leadership roles and younger pupils are able to accomplish tasks, they could not do without the assistance of older children.
